in case of meebo is restricted meebo repeater is an alternative. it is open source, undergoing and experimental project (so no guarantees) that is trying to resolve the issue, and prevent the user to use the third-party proxy server. using third-party proxy server can cause phishing and your password could be disclosed. it works thus it bounces your web traffic from one computer to another computer and finally to meebo. but it requires to install the meebo repeater on your computer.

N.B.: The meebo repeater supports SSL and non-SSL so you don’t have to worry about anyone reading your IMs.
